The king of Okonomiyaki, Chibo, has finally arrived in Manila. Sharing the experience of having a taste of Osaka's Okonomiyaki.

Okonomiyaki Chibo Restaurant was founded in 1973 at Sennichimae Osaka, a district famous for gourmet eateries. The name Chibo comes from the flag mark of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, a powerful warlord who lived in Japan during the 16th century and built Osaka Castle. His flag mark bears a pattern of clustering calabashes.
They are first to introduce the fusion of Okonomiyaki and Teppanyaki. After introducing this new concept, Okonomiyaki Chibo became famous in Japan and continues to be one of the most successful Okonomiyaki restaurants.
Chibo Okonomiyaki is located at the level 2 of S Maison, Conrad Manila, Seaside Boulevard corner Coral Way, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. The ambiance of the place feels homey. The teppanyaki tables also make dining here a bit more exciting.
We (with my food blogger friends) stayed in the teppanyaki room and were lucky enough to be served by their head chef along with their other chefs.
Now sharing about the dishes that we had.
Gyoza Teppan. These Japanese fried dumplings were apparently made flat. It's different from the usual gyozas that I had, but this tastes really good.
US Beef Tenderloin Steak. High-grade premium meat, done medium-well. Tender and good. They offer different sauces but this can stand alone by itself or with just plain salt.
US Angus Beef Short Ribs. This is also good I wanted to have this with rice. (They also serve rice but I wanted to save myself from some calories. lol). Tender and rich in flavor.
Assorted Seafood. Tuna, squid, scallops, and prawns. Side of vegetables.
Buta Yakisoba. Buta in Japanese means pork. This yakisoba is served with nori (seaweed) and bonito flakes on top. You can choose to have it (yakisoba) plain then put your own toppings.
Next up, are the okonomiyaki. Okonomiyaki is a Japanese-savory pancake with main ingredients of dough, cabbage, tempura bits, spring onions, red ginger, varied with fillings such as meat, seafood and vegetables topped with special sauce, mayonnaise, ground dried seaweed and fish flakes.
Chibo Okonomiyaki. Prawn, scallop, beef, and pork.
Butatama Okonomiyaki. Osaka's classic okonomiyaki with pork.
A single order of okonomiyaki is good for sharing. With its heavy ingredients, this dish is really sating.
Shirayukihime. Extra soft textured okonomiyaki with prawn, bacon, pork, tomato, avocado, cheese topped with meringue. Their savory dessert.
