Delicere

Sunday dinner in Marikina has brought us to Delicere in San Roque. This is one of Robin's go-to spots and he recently introduced me to this place.

Delicere is located on 24 Ditchoy Street, San Roque, Marikina City. The ambiance of the place gives a classy look, which can be quite intimidating. I'm surprised that the cost of their dishes is middle-range and they have a lot to offer on the menu; from Italian dishes to American, and even Filipino dishes. Delicere is a Latin word that means, "to entice by charm or attraction." I would say that I was indeed enticed by their ambiance.
Here are the dishes that we tried:
Ripe Mango Shake. Whenever this beverage is available on the menu of any restaurant I'm new at, I definitely order this. It's kind of a part of my personal criteria in judging a place. Their ripe mango shake did not disappoint. They used fresh riped mangoes with the right amount of sweetness--not bland nor too sweet.
Pastel De Lengua. Beef tongue cooked in creamy mushroom sauce. This was the dish ordered by Robin. The vegetable side was few, but the lengua was itself was good. It was tender, kind of that "melts in your mouth" feel, and the creamy mushroom sauce gives a delicate creaminess with a hint of savory.
Pasta Vongole. Fresh clams, garlic, tomatoes, white wine, and chili flakes. The pasta was al dente. The overall experience of eating this dish was good, although it isn't quite similar to the authentic Italian Spaghetti Alle Vongole. I barely noticed the white wine and chili flakes. Also, traditional Italian Vongole doesn't have cheese with it and has a handful of parsley. This dish seems to have been adjusted to the Filipino palate. Don't forget to save the bread for last! Italians would finish this dish with the bread to scoop the sauce that's left after you're done with the pasta.
By the way, we dined here around 8:30 in the evening. I was able to get a good photo of the place before it closes--once the other diners have left. It had a good crowd, though. Would I go back? Sure. :)
