Hong Kong's famous chain of dessert shops that specializes in mango has finally opened its flagship store in Manila.
Hui Lau Shan is located on the fourth floor of Mega Atrium at SM Megamall in Ortigas. Seeing the vibrant yellow interiors excite me because I just love mangoes so much. They use carabao mangoes from Guimaras which are said to be the sweetest mangoes in the world. I dropped by Hui Lau Shan during their soft opening to give it a try.
They have products at the counter which are wrapped in really cute packaging and are good treats or pasalubong such as their mango pudding.
For their products that I have tried, the A1 Mango and Mango Jelly in Mango Juice seemed promising to me since it's mango on mango in mango juice which also happens to be one of their best-selling drinks. As someone who loves mangoes so much, I was underwhelmed with this drink. It wasn't as sweet and fresh as I expected, considering that these are Guimaras mangoes. (If you have read my previous blog posts, dishes with mangoes get plus points from me since I just love mangoes that much.) I'm not sure if I expected so much, or I just had a bad batch since this was during their soft opening.
The Mango Mochi was recommended to me by another blogger friend. The mango mochi was coated with coconut shavings and contains real mango slice inside. Apparently, I'm not a fan of coconut so I didn't enjoy this one. I'd still give a chance to their other desserts when I come back since this was during their soft opening and only a few were available.
